In only its first year, Kajitani’s program has positively impacted at-promise students across the United States. Teachers and parents report that students previously turned off by math have never had so much fun, and their grades have risen dramatically. Kajitani teaches in one of the poorest neighborhoods in San Diego; however, over the past two years, his students have outperformed the rest of the district on standardized tests by as much as 12 percentage points!

In addition, one of his songs, “Just Because,” is being used by D.A.R.E. programs nationwide to help kids think critically about messages they receive from television, radio, and video games.

Robert W. Blackburn, Ph.D., former superintendent of Oakland Public Schools, said of this product, “Middle school kids laughing and getting excited about math? On what planet? Turns out Alex Kajitani has the secret: teach math (and sensible living) concepts through hip-hop and rap. Utterly engaging, irresistible and, best of all, effective!”

Behind this company is a teacher – still in the classroom motivating at-promise students every day – who knows reaching them early and helping them believe in themselves are critical to their success.
