Community Poetry Project

The Dream Flag Project provides an opportunity for students to reflect and create poetry about their dreams for themselves and the world in a broad community of student writers.

The Dream Flag Project (http://www.dreamflags.org) is a free project is open to teachers in K-12 and culminates in April for National Poetry Month.  Dream Flag incorporates the poetry of Langston Hughes and integrates art and writing as students compose poetry and make their own dream flag. Public exhibition of the poetry is a big part of the project, as well as connecting between schools. Last year 71 schools across 19 states participated, and 11,000 students created Dream Flags. The project was started and is run by two sixth grade English teachers.
