RAPSA Advisory Board

The RAPSA Advisory Board adheres to the mission and vision of the Association and assists with implementation of goals.

Thought-Leaders, Visionaries, and Experts

Members of our advisory board are community leaders with an interest in working with at-promise students and assisting RAPSA in achieving its goals by challenging us, guiding us, building connections, and marketing us to the business and educational communities.

Roles and Duties:

Members of the Advisory Board commit to the stated mission and vision of RAPSA. The Advisory Board makes recommendations for developing professional development opportunities, creating new goals and objectives, and building connections with other educational associations or individuals.

Advisory Board members are liaisons for RAPSA to the business and educational communities. They assist with communication and marketing RAPSA publications and events. By promoting the goals of RAPSA, Advisory Board members work to achieve the Association mission of improved educational outcomes for all students.

Members meet at least once per calendar year to review RAPSA's goals and mission. Other operations will be conducted via electronic communication and telephone conferences.

Educational Consultant, Motivational Speaker, and Author

Larry Bell is a 25 year veteran in education, both as a classroom teacher and a consultant. He provides workshops on proven strategies for at-risk and gifted student populations.

He is the author of 12 Powerful Words That Increase Test Scores and Help Close the Achievement Gap.

 

ImageDelaine Eastin, Co-Chair
Educational Consultant, Former California State Superintendent of Public Instruction

Delaine Eastin served as the California State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SPI) for eight years, the first and only woman in history to hold that position.  As an elected constitutional officer, Delaine managed more than 40% of the California budget and oversaw the education of 6.1 million children.  Superintendent Eastin championed state standards and assessments aligned to standards, reduced class size in kindergarten through third grade, a strengthening of arts education and hands-on science.  Delaine was the first statewide official to call for Universal Preschool in California.  She fought to rebuild California school libraries and to wire schools for technology.  She was the architect of the innovative Net Days, copied nationally in more than 40 states and internationally in more than 40 countries.  Delaine has been an advocate for substantial increases in school construction funding, improved school nutrition, universal preschool, full-day mandatory kindergarten, better career and technical education and greater civic engagement of students.  Prior to serving as the SPI, she served 8 years in the California State Assembly and chaired the Assembly Education Committee.  After leaving as SPI, Delaine was the Executive Director of the National Institute for School Leadership and then a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Educational Leadership at Mills College in Oakland, California. She now does consulting and speaking.

 

Leslie Fausset
Superintendent, Solana Beach School District
 

Currently serving as the Superintendent of the Solana Beach School District, Leslie Fausset has served more than thirty years in public education.  Prior to the Solana Beach superintendency, Leslie was the Deputy/Interim Superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District, the second largest school district in California.

For five years prior to that, Leslie was the Chief Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction for California and had responsibility for Curriculum and Instruction, Preschool and Child Care Programs, Special Education, as well as myriad legislative and program areas.  During her tenure at the California Department of Education, California Academic Standards were developed and approved as well as the California academic accountability system.

Other professional experiences include: classroom teacher; reading specialist; state and federal categorical program coordinator; elementary and middle school principalships; director of communication, evaluation, and staff development; and assistant superintendent of instruction. 

As a classroom teacher and every other position that Leslie has held, a commitment to and belief in the success of every student has been the hallmark of her career.

Founder and CEO, The Lorraine Monroe Leadership Institute (LMLI)

Dr. Lorraine Monroe, President and CEO of The Lorraine Monroe Leadership Institute (LMLI) was the founding principal of the renowned Frederick Douglass Academy in Central Harlem.  Dr. Monroe translates her extensive experiences in New York City public schools—as teacher, dean, assistant principal, principal, and Deputy Chancellor for Curriculum and Instruction—into the guiding set of leadership principles that define the work of The Lorraine Monroe Leadership Institute.  Dr. Monroe is a national and international consultant whose groundbreaking work has been featured on 60 Minutes, Tony Brown’s Journal, the McCreary Report with Bill McCreary, the Tom Snyder Show, and in Ebony magazine, the New York Times, the Reader’s Digest, Fast Company business magazine and the nationally syndicated Parade Magazine.  Her book, Nothing’s Impossible: Leadership Lessons from Inside and Outside the Classroom, has been translated into Swedish, Finnish, and Taiwanese.    Dr. Monroe’s second book, The Monroe Doctrine: An ABC Guide to What Great Bosses Do, offers educators, administrators, and business folk simple, fundamental lessons on becoming and remaining a truly great boss.  For additional information about Dr. Monroe and LMLI, visit www.lorrainemonroe.org.
