RAPSA is proud to spotlight Adonai Mack, Chief Executive Officer of Child Action and a respected leader in California’s education policy landscape, as a member of our Education and Leadership Advisory Table (ELAT). With nearly two decades of experience advancing early learning, education equity, and public policy, Adonai brings a rare blend of systems knowledge, legislative expertise, and unwavering commitment to children and families.
At Child Action, Adonai leads a dedicated team working to advance the education and social welfare of children and families across Sacramento County. As the organization’s chief spokesperson and policy champion, he advocates for resources that strengthen families and elevate the child care workforce, ensuring that young learners have access to quality early learning opportunities. His leadership centers on collaboration, aligning community partners to address systemic barriers and promote educational equity from the earliest years.
Before joining Child Action, Adonai spent nearly fifteen years as Senior Director of Federal Relations for the Association of California School Administrators, where he led federal advocacy efforts shaping education policy nationwide. He also previously served as a legislative advocate for the California School Boards Association, and worked in state leadership roles supporting Superintendent Jack O'Connell and Governor Gray Davis. Across these roles, he has advocated on issues ranging from school finance and special education to preschool, transportation, and student support.
When asked why supporting alternative education and at promise and opportunity youth matters to him, Adonai shared:
“Our children often learn in a variety of ways and need different strategies to reach them…Many students in our county do not have access to a variety of supports depending on the zip code in which they live. Therefore, as educators, advocates, and leaders, we need to remove these obstacles to support our students and help them thrive.”
His words reflect a deep understanding that opportunity should not be determined by geography, and that meaningful change requires intentional policy and leadership. Through RAPSA’s Education and Leadership Advisory Table, Adonai will help strengthen conversations around alternative education pathways, equity driven policy solutions, and long term systems reform.
On how he hopes to contribute to the Advisory Table, Adonai notes:
“I have worked in education policy for over 20 years and understand both the complexity of the education system as well as the legislative process. I believe I can lend my expertise to help shape policy that can benefit our students in the long term.”
His decades of navigating California’s education and legislative systems will be invaluable as RAPSA continues advancing policy conversations that elevate at-promise and opportunity youth.
At the heart of his work is a simple but powerful belief:
“I believe that given the opportunity and tools, every child can be successful. They just need support.”
We are honored to have Adonai Mack join our Education and Leadership Advisory Table and look forward to the leadership, insight, and policy expertise he will bring as we continue working to expand access, strengthen alternative education pathways, and ensure every young person has the opportunity to thrive.
